Debra Bevaart

A self-taught artist, Debra Bevaart has painted and sculpted since she was very young.

Some of her earliest memories are sketching and drawing British Columbia’s landscapes, from the time she was a child.

Upon entering high school, she began to explore three-dimensional art by sculpting in clay and later, carving in a variety of mediums.

Pure pleasure is to take rough stones, realize the form within and then allow that form to emerge.

Through years of experimentation and creation, Debra has honed her artistic skills and earned a greater respect for her ability to capture the essence of her subjects.

Her keen eye allows her to recreate not only the form and look of wildlife in their natural habitat, but Debra Bevaart sculptures go one step further to capture the spirit of her subjects.

Working with hand tools, Debra carves most of her sculptures from a single block of stone. This is a difficult and time-consuming procedure, but one which she has perfected.
